Prince William County Adds Two New Voting Precincts

Fewer registered voters in a precinct mean shorter lines for people to check in and cast their ballot creating a more enjoyable Election Day experience for voters.

The two split precincts are Bristow Run in the Brentsville Magisterial District previously serving 4,879 registered voters and the Potomac Precinct in the Potomac Magisterial District previously serving 4,785 registered voters.

The Electoral Board and General Registrar appreciate the action taken by the County Executive’s Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and our Board Of County Supervisors (BOCS) ahead of the February 1, 2019 precinct change “freeze” date* to improve the voter experience at the two largest precincts in Prince William County.

In the Brentsville Magisterial District, Supervisor Lawson collaborated with the County’s GIS department and the Office of Elections to develop an effective plan to use the existing Piney Branch boundaries and add a polling place at Chris Yung Elementary School, thus renaming the precinct to Chris Yung Precinct.  Then, the Bristow Run Precinct was split with about half the residents staying at Bristow Run Elementary School and the remaining residents, on the western side, moving to Piney Branch Elementary School in the new Piney Branch Precinct.

The Potomac Precinct was split with about half the residents staying at Potomac High School and the remaining residents, from the southwestern side, moving to the new Williams Precinct and voting at Williams Elementary School.

All affected voters will be sent a new voter registration notice indicating their new polling place in the coming weeks.
